Katrijn Vandenborne
President, Board of European Students of Technology (BEST)
Katrijn Vandenborne is a recent graduate from Ghent University, where she obtained her Master of Science degree in Electrical Power Engineering. During her studies, she gained valuable industry experience through an internship at Sweco, where she conducted research on electromagnetic fields, interference, and compatibility. Her master’s thesis, centered on electrical motor design, emphasized the importance of life cycle assessment in engineering—a reflection of her commitment to sustainable technology.
In parallel to her academic and engineering pursuits, Katrijn has been deeply involved in the Board of European Students of Technology (BEST) for over three years. As a leader within the organisation, she has organised numerous events aimed at connecting students from across Europe. Currently serving as President, Katrijn is responsible for strategic planning, external relations, and overseeing the organization’s various functions.
She chairs board meetings and collaborates closely with the International Board to drive the organization’s mission of developing students. Under her leadership, BEST hopefully will significantly expand its reach and influence across Europe and beyond.
Beyond engineering, Katrijn has developed a strong interest in policymaking, stemming from BEST’s growing engagement with European institutions. Her passion for advocating on behalf of European students has driven her to seek further involvement in shaping student voices at the European level. She has applied for a traineeship at the European Council, aiming to deepen her impact and contribute to policy development for students across the continent.
